I never bothered purchasing an overpriced ticket for the Sarah Palin as the Republican party savior tour. I didn't fault her for jumping ship from her gubernatorial duties in Alaska. In fact I found it at the time to be somewhat of an admirable thing to do (recognizing that is that there is much more to life than eternal public service). Of course the difference between Palin and I (well there are many to be certain) is that whereas life for me is beyond public service, it too is beyond pundintry. Now, firmly entrenched into the belly of the beast that is FOX News and political pundintry, she's now relegated herself to somewhat futile attempts at scoring political points. So much for getting beyond the politics as usual in Washington eh?
The latest attempt is her insistence that President Obama fire Rahm Emanuel for criticizing the strategy of Senate liberals as "Fucking Retarded" in a private meeting.
For Palin, she takes umbrage in a posting on her Facebook page, not with the Rahm dropping the F bomb but instead with his use of the word retarded. In so doing, Palin has resorted to a page right out of the liberal PC playbook by taking the role of the offended victim (Palin's youngest son has Down Syndrome) in her want to essentially criminalize speech.
In Mrs. Palin's thinking, we must inquire if it would have been any more acceptable to her had Rahm criticized the strategy as "Fucking Moronic" or "Fucking Idiotic" or "Fucking Stupid"?
I have to think Mrs. Palin that morons, idiots, and stupid people the world over might also find themselves offended by the choice of words.
Or, perhaps we might inquire what is preferable to Mrs. Palin were it one of her own children uttering one of the two:
"Flipping retarded" OR "Fucking dumb"
Take your pick in categorizing this trivial attempt to score a political point on the part of Mrs. Palin.
I for one am perfectly content citing Mrs. Palin's actions in this regard as (in the words of Rahm Emanuel) "Fucking Retarded".

Heh heh; point well taken.
I dunno, doesn't everyone have a right to express their opinion?
Of course everyone has a right to their opinion but it would seem that Palin is failing in her suggestion that Obama fire Rahm to understand this very basic concept. Instead, she is attempting to score a political point for her "party". What's more, Palin wasn't sitting in on that meeting. Had she been, she might have a bit more credibility in criticizing Rahm's choice of words.
This word "retarded", I've used it very sparingly at my own blog but when I did I felt it was the only word that fit but of course someone had a problem with it. I think this term is alot like the term "faggot", it's used in the broadest possible sense and not the way people think. When I used the term retarded (actually I've used the other term from time to time too) I never used it to refer to the mentally retarded but something just being stupid on a cosmic scale and retarded has a stronger ring to it than just something being moronic or idiotic, sounds more comical too. However I don't believe in overusing these type words and if Emanuel said it all the time I'd agree with her point. I agree with soapie, I know it's a sore point with Palin because of her son but it also smacks of PC.
I think a much better comparison would be to compare it to the word "gay".
The word retard means to slow/delay the progress of. And so if Rahm says something is retarded, he's inferring that it is a slow or delayed process.
If I say something is gay, I'm not necessarily inferring that it is homosexual in nature. Ya dig?
