Something New

Not unlike most other hard working individuals, I am a busy man. Unfortunately, blogging doesn't pay the bills. This is why I don't have as much time to blog as I'd like. Even still, this is not to say that news tidbits come down the pipeline and I don't have any comment on it. Indeed I most certainly do. It's just that I don't have the time to crank out meaningful blogs about every subject which raises my curiosity.

So.. what I've decided to do is to implement a new segment here (I'm still trying to come up with a flashy name apropos to the quick point I'm making....I considered FlashPoint but I dunno...). Anyway, here's the first of what I hope to be many more quick morsels of Soapster's commentary. As always... enjoy (or do not).

Senator Harry Reid has some thoughts with respect to trying to ramp up the legalization of illegal immigrants via the DREAM Act*.

"The DREAM Act would allow children who have grown-up in the United States -- brought here by their parents through no fault of their own -- to legalize their status. The DREAM Act recognizes that children should not be penalized for the actions of their parents. "

Scarry Harry says that children should not be penalized for the actions of their parents eh? Well here's a novel idea Senator Reid (Turn up your hearing aid so you hear it LOUD and CLEAR).

Who the Hell is going to stand up for the American Taxpayer?? Who is going to stand up and tell you, quite matter of factly, "I too should not be penalized (through additional taxation to subsidize in-state tuition rates etc.) for the actions of the parents of these children!"

* The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (also called "The DREAM Act") is a highly contentious bill that has been introduced several times in the United States Congress that would provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrant students and those wishing to join the United States military. The bill, in all its incarnations, has never been brought to a floor vote as a stand alone bill in either the United States House or the United States Senate, despite passing the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary with a vote of 16-3and at one point having co-sponsors[1] in the senate. The text of the bill has also been included in various other immigration-related bills, including the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006, which was approved by the Senate and the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, which failed in a 46-53 cloture vote in the Senate. I say: then why do you think abortion should be legal?

Of course, Reid never makes much sense.

Now now Beth. My position on abortion is what?

It is that it should only be available when or to whom?

A) In instances of Rape or Incest
B) In instances where the life of the mother is in jeopardy

I have asserted my position that, with respect to A), while the woman had become pregnant through the act of intercourse, the act itself was not willful.

People that come to this country illegally do so knowingly through their own action(provided they are not a minor at the mercy of their parents), they have children willfully because they can exploit a loophole in our laws. By having these children willfully, and knowing these laws and their actions are illegal, they assume the responsibility that comes with that action.

While I might not have made my argument distinctively clear at the time, the debate wasn't so much about whether or not the children should be held at the mercy for the WILLFUL actions of their parents (by the principles I've held I happen to think they shouldn't). However, my entire argument was that You and I should also not have to be held at the mercy of such actions.

Hope that clarifies things a little.

I know YOUR position Soapster, I was talking about Mr. Reid's position, where abortions should be legal even if pregnancies between two consenting adults, k?
